Transport Layer Security (TLS)

TLS is a cryptographic protocol designed to provide privacy, data, and communication security within a computer network. It has several versions that are widely implemented for web, browsing, and server communication security.

TLS’s predecessor is another security encryption protocol – Secure Socket Layer (SSL).
