Straddle Carrier (STR)
STR (also known as straddle truck) is a freight-carrying vehicle, used in port terminals and yards for stacking and moving containers by straddling(instead of carrying them on top). STR does not require cranes’ assistance with load and unload and can stack containers up to four high and lift up to two full containers simultaneously.
STR is operated directly by the driver without outside assistance. It assumes long-distance transportation at a relatively low speed (up to 30 km with full containers). Also, Straddle terminals usually don’t possess RTGs/RMGs.
